"Nwoye knew that it was right to be masculine and to be violent, but somehow he still preferred the stories that his mother used to tell, and which she no doubt still told to her younger children."
Nwoye’s  thoughts were opposite of okonkwo’s, he didn’t give as much importance to being masculine as okonkwo did.  Eventhough he was  forced to act in a masculine manner in order to please his father, Nwoye  inner self  wasn’t so concern of being masculine.  This is proven by the fact that he preferred his mother’s stories rather than his father’s masculine ones.
